Happy Monday: Move Your Body! (+ video!)

Hate exercise? Or love it?

If you dread going to the gym, here's a Happy Monday video to help.

This weekend, I graduated my Certificate in Applied Positive Psychology (CAPP) students and we focused on Vitality. Though it doesn't seem connected to living your purpose, the fact is that if you want to feel empowered, fulfilled, and be your happiest self, you have to take care of your body. Science shows that your brain and body are connected.

Did you know that moving your body is directly related to how long and well you live?
Did you know that your brain requires body movement?

In this week's Happy Monday video, I share:

  • Research-based evidence about how moving your body impacts your brain and how long you live
  • What healthy movement actually does in your body to increase your energy

Ever feel cranky? Here’s how to shift it!

Do you ever get super cranky?

Me too. And I was getting there last week – big time.

So when Josh said to me, “We're going away for the weekend!” you'd think I would have been over the moon excited.
But I wasn't.
My stomach dropped.
My mind raced about everything else we needed to do.
We just launched our podcast and need to record new episodes.
We just got an apartment in New York that we need to start renting out.
I just picked up a book agent who needs edits done to my proposal.

We had. NO time. For a vacation.

And that's exactly why I needed it.Between traveling and working nearly every day and weekend this year, I've exhausted myself.
Just last week, I started crying over spilling and then running out of shampoo.
And then I yelled at Josh for not helping me clean it “the right way.”
I literally had a temper tantrum in the bathroom.

I was a MESS.
I needed to get away.
So we went to Puerto Rico on a glorious 4 day retreat and it filled my soul.
Daily beach yoga and meditation.
Feeling my feet in the sand.
Soaking in sun and the lapping of waves all day long.

I feel full and alive and at peace and energetic again. If you've felt cranky, you need some self-care too. 

This is what a retreat does. Getaways fill you up so that you have more to give. As women, we give and give so much, but when we're depleted, we're like a car running on fumes. Clunky and on the verge of breakdown. But when you fill up your tank first, you want to give because you feel gloriously charged. Your heart is full, your body is satisfied, and you give from the overflow.

It was so magical that I scoped places for a women's retreat there. As women – who still do the bulk of the housecare and childcare, and we work in nearly equal numbers at lower pay – we HAVE to recharge in order to live well, give of our hearts, and love life. It's no longer optional. It's a necessity.

I taped this video for you from Puerto Rico yesterday. Take it in then ask yourself this: What will I do for self-care TODAY? Get up and dance to my favorite song? Take a lavender salt bath? Spend 15 minutes journaling? Take a yoga class? Or book a retreat and watch how lit up you feel – and how that light then changes your mood, your interactions, your relationships, and your life? Get Motivated!

Happy Monday! I took last week off because I caught a cold, and this week, I need some MOTIVATION to get back on track.

So I'm wearing my “MOTIVATION” tank and using my own tools. There are a few questions I love so much to get me motivated that I taped them in this video to help you get motivated as well! Why People Fail {video}

I was working on my first book when I learned why some people succeed and others fail.

I was 28 years old, newly divorced and the words were flowing out of me. My story of love, heartbreak, and how every young woman could heal from young divorce. I was sure I had a best seller.

And then I met a top agent from a top agency in LA and I was sure this was IT!!

But after reading my manuscript, he rejected my book.

Let's face it, at 28, I felt like he had rejected ME.

Having grown up thinking I had to be perfect at everything, I had no idea how to deal with this rejection. I felt like a loser and failure and the shame was more than I could bear.

So I gave up. For years.

I hear this story all the time. You were doing great with your exercise and eating plan until someone sent you candy for Valentines Day and months later, you're still beating yourself up and far away from the gym. You were almost done with your business plan when a family member got sick and you had to take time off and then you were too tired to start again.

You fall off the wagon and figure, “What's the point? I knew I couldn't do it.”

There's only ONE difference between people who succeed and people who fail. The #1 difference between people who realize their dreams and those who don't. In this week's Happy Monday motivational video, I share what that #1 difference is so that you can fulfill your purpose and succeed at all of your dreams.  Watch it below:

Happy Monday: How Do You Treat Yourself? [Video]

How do you take care of yourself? Where do you put yourself on the priority list? 

I'm just back from Tulum, Mexico, where I led a transformative retreat for 8 beautiful brave women. We practiced meditation and yoga at sunrise, swam like mermaids in turquoise fresh waters, and claimed our desires with a Mayan shaman.

 

Though I lead a lot of retreats, a lesson hit me loud and clear this time:

Self care is no longer optional. Self care is critical for a happy, purposeful life.

For example, one of the retreat attendees became widowed just a few months ago. She has a young daughter and between taking care of her, her husband, and her stepkids, she had always come last. However, she knows that how she treats herself will make the difference in how her daughter treats herself.

So here she was.
In Mexico.
Treating herself like a Goddess.
And declaring light after a new dawn. 

Tomorrow, February 13 is International Day of Self-Love, so I taped this video for you to declare your own light this week – for you to start treating yourself the way you deserve.

 

I'm celebrating Self-Love day with a massage, coffee with a friend and time to journal. How will you spend it?
