Here’s my list: Heights. Growing old alone. Never being 100% completely comfortable in my own skin. Getting a tattoo. Falling in love with someone my family will reject. Being rejected. Being disliked. Hearing that I’m not a good writer or speaker or worth anything. That those mean voices in my head are right. That you’ll read this blog post and no longer respect me or my work.
These are things I’m afraid of. And yet, I am putting them out into the universe for you and anyone else to read. Why? Because I want you to know that having fear is NORMAL! It is HUMAN. Because I left my 6-figure, VP-title corporate job to pursue my purpose, too many people say to me, “Carin, you must have NO fear.” They are SO wrong.
I have fears like everyone else. The question is what we do with them. Are you letting your fear hold you back? Are you hiding behind a fear while your beautiful purpose remains squashed deep inside? The true you is yearning to come out! For years, I was so afraid to pursue this dream that I stayed in an unfulfilling job, I entered all the wrong relationships and I spent too much money on things I didn’t need to try to fill the void. Guess what? The void only became bigger until I was so depressed that I could hardly get out of bed.
So these days, I take fear head on. Two weeks ago, I biked the Golden Gate Bridge in 50-mile-an-hour gusty winds – a terrifying feat for someone afraid of heights. And this week, I am working on my book proposal for a contest that I entered – a frightening task for someone afraid of rejection.
But I am doing it. Head on. Because it is my PURPOSE to do so.
You too can face your fears. Find out how in this week’s PurposeFULL Monday. I share three easy tips to overcome YOUR fear so that you can live the life you were MEANT to live.
