One day in April 2007, I woke up after a restless night of shifting between feeling anxious, sad, alone, and like a loser. I couldn't shake the shame that I was wasting my life away and yet I couldn't seem to do anything about it.
I was just too stuck.
I walked into my psychiatrist, Susan's, office and asked her for more meds – just as I had the month before that, and the month before that, and nearly every month before that.
She placed her pen in the binder of her notebook, closed it, and moved forward in her chair. “Carin,” she said as she slid her reading glasses down her nose to look at me eye-to-eye. “You don’t need more meds, you need to follow the dreams you’ve been talking about for a year.”
Boom.
Half of me wanted to sink into her thick leather couch and disappear. Half of me knew what I needed to do: Go after my dreams.
I had a big vision for my life – impacting millions of women to feel alive and free and powerful, living for months at a time in Paris or Miami, speaking to hundreds of women for them to go after their dreams, being on the radio, having my own show, having epic love with a partner who adored and cherished me like a Queen, a beautiful baby with ringlet curls crawling on the floor, traveling the world, getting to work from anywhere, dinner parties with friends, laughing and dancing under twinkling lights all night. I didn't know where to start, but I knew it would take me being fierce, spirited, passionate, committed and gritty.
So what is vision and why is it important?
A vision means holding a mental picture of what the future holds so that it pulls you forward toward your goal, even in the face of adversity and challenge.
It’s what holds you to your dreams.
This is important because it gives you a place to focus and as Tony Robbins said, “energy flows where attention goes.”
So I hired a coach. Someone to help me figure out my first step to turning my vision into a reality.
I became what I call a Visionary Vixen.
Someone who not only had the VISION, but also the tenacity to create it.
A sacred revolutionary who takes audacious action and believes that the seemingly impossible is meant for me – and you.
I took time to envision what my life would look like if I could have it any way I desired.
And everyday, I took a few minutes to imagine what my life would like.
Years later, my life looks exactly like my dream. Even my baby's curly hair, which brings me to tears all the time.
Is it perfect? No – my toddler wouldn't sleep in his crib last night so I'm tired today! And then he wouldn't sit in his high chair for breakfast, so it's been a lot of temper tantrums here! (Me and him HAHA!)
But I want it ALL.
And I want it ALL for you, too. Whatever YOUR vision is… I love helping you get unstuck to create it.
And if you don't know your vision, I want to ignite you to see and feel it. Tune into this week's podcast episode, The Power Of Visioning, to learn more! Click here to check it out!
