Stop overcomplicating things!

Greetings from beautiful New York City where I am feeling on top of the world. Yesterday, I held the second onsite for my 4 month class, “AMP: Activate My Purpose!” and the shifts people are making to take a STAND for their greatness and to PURSUE their purpose is giving me goosebumps!! One woman left claiming that she was getting out of her own way and going for her dreams. It's beyond inspiring and humbling to see people claim their birthright of purpose!

This class made me think of you.

You can realize your dreams too. You can live on purpose. I know – you may think you don't know what your purpose is, or you have a dream but you think you're not rich enough, talented enough, or good enough to do what is in your heart to do. These thoughts are only holding you back. You know deep down what lights you up…. you know.

But what are you going to do about it? The only difference between these students and you is that they are saying “YES” to themselves. They are investing in themselves to change their lives. It takes time, effort, money and energy to create the life you want. My students are worth it and so are you!

I know change isn't easy. Purpose feels overwhelming. Years ago, I too was paralyzed by fear. Fear that no one wanted to hear what I had to say. Fear that I wasn't good enough. Fear that I would fail. All of those nasty voices held me back for years. If I had listened to those voices, I wouldn't have taught AMP this past weekend, I wouldn't be a best selling author and I wouldn't be writing this to you today.

What is holding you back? One of the things that used to hold me back was overcomplicating purpose and allowing my head to SPIN out of control about what I was MEANT to do. Can you relate? If so, you need to stop overcomplicating the matter. Purpose is simple: it is doing what lights you up so that you can light others up. I taped this video for you to take the first step.

Mind over Mood

Greetings from Sunny Florida where I am spending Passover with my honey and his family. A good reminder to appreciate all of the good in life!

As odd as it may seem, on Monday, I was feeling down. Little situations frustrated me, I got sad and even a bit angry. Of course, all of these emotions are 100% human, but sometimes I have let sadness become all out depression and frustration become anger. No good – I was not letting it happen again!

When emotions run wild into a crazy downward spiral of negativity it's not healthy. It's usually not even accurate! For example… Your boss points out a mistake and suddenly you're either cursing her or terrified you're losing your job. Your hotel gets messed up and it rains on day one of vacation – and suddenly you're sure that the whole vacation is ruined. That spiral hurts us more – and it's damaging – for you, your relationships and your life. This is when we need to take control of our emotions – mind over mood!

I made a video for you about this a few weeks ago while I was in California. No, I'm not crazy for being a bit sad in California or Florida. I'm human – and so are you. When you feel down, it is all about making a conscious choice. A mental choice to not let the negativity spiral. A mental choice to choose to see the good. Notice the beauty of nature, appreciate what you have – and say YES! to opportunities. That's what I did in CA. Choosing Mind over Mood even led me to ride in a helicopter…!!! Check this video out.

How do you do that?

I am just coming off a spiritual retreat in Baltimore, a weekend with my honey in Philly and am now emailing you from Cleveland where I am speaking with Progressive Insurance about how to “Succeed from your Strengths!”

This topic made me think about my strengths – and wondering about yours. So often, people see me speak, or hear me on the radio and ask, “How do you do that? How can you speak to 500 people so easily??” I look at them and ask, “How do you do what you do so well?” We are often so caught up in what we aren’t that we forget to focus on who we are. The fact is that many of you are great with numbers and I am NOT – even though my mom is a mathematician! Some of you are incredible with direction – and I get LOST in my own neighborhood. You may have a gift with children, with art, with baking, that would totally amaze me and make me wonder, “How does she do that??”

That’s the beauty of individuality – we each have different strengths and talents. We each have collected distinct wisdom from our experiences. We each have a different purpose.

Your “job” is to know those strengths, hone those talents, and amp up your unique purpose to the world. So today, I taped this video for you from the airport as I’m getting ready to “amp up” my strengths in speaking this week. Amp up my energy, amp up my passion, amp up my purpose.

What strengths are you going to amp up today? How will you BRING IT this week? The world stands up and takes notice when you bring your best to it. I’ve seen this happen in my own life time and again. Just last week, media branding experts sent me a proposal to work with me because they see that I’m bringing my full passion to you. And this summer, I won a writing contest to have a chapter published in Christine Kloser’s anthology “Pebbles in the Pond Wave 3”, because I amped up my purpose through the contest entry I sent her. And as a bonus gift from G-d, 17 of my co-authors in the book were at the retreat with me last week and they graced my soul with their distinct strengths, beautiful souls and nourishing spirits.

I promise you, when you work from your strengths, amp them up and bring your full purpose to life, miracles unfold before your eyes. So I ask you, how are you going to amp it up this week? Email me – I can’t wait to see!

Please Be Real

I'm writing from sunny Sanibel Island where my college girlfriends and I just had our annual reunion.Being with them really got me thinking about who I am at my core. My true values. My authentic self. And how I've gotten off track lately.

Sometimes, my ego sets in. I feel like I need to change to fit in. Does this happen to you? Maybe you see yourself acting differently in front of some of your colleagues or you find yourself dressing up to go to a certain part of town.

Why can't we just feel good enough as is??

You are more than enough. I am more than enough. In fact, to live on purpose we have to be our real selves. Not a covered up version. The world needs our truth. Our pain. Our wisdom!! We need you living your exact core strengths in this world. We need you sharing your unique wisdom to support others. As I shared in a keynote address to Jo-Ann Fabrics' HQ last week, you have unique gifts that ONLY YOU can contribute. But we need the authentic you, the real you. Even if you consider that version of you “imperfect.”

Leave it to friends of 20 years to call me out and ground me back into my true self. Thanks to them, I taped this video for you about keepin' it real! I taped this without makeup, in jeans. The world needs the authentic, passionate, emotional, a bit dramatic, kind, compassionate, funny, loving, sensitive, completely imperfect “ham” that I am!And the world needs YOU too!

Love – Real Love

Like it or not, partner or not, Valentine's Day is around the corner. It's such a funny holiday – a day dedicated to love. Why isn't every day dedicated to love? It should be. If we're living on purpose, it is.

So knowing that Valentines Day is here got me thinking about Love, of course. This year, I have an incredible man who is planning a surprise night out – and I KNOW I am super blessed. However, there have been plenty of years when I didn't have anyone to spend the holiday with. Since my ivorce, there have been plenty of nights when I felt lonely and depressed. To be completely transparent, I've said the meanest things to myself before. I've called myself a loser, a loner, told myself that I wasn't good enough. I've beaten myself up for past mistakes and spent way too long regretting. Maybe you can relate?

Here's what I've learned, whether I have a boyfriend or not, if I beat myself up, I am blocking love from coming in and from going out. In self-shame, I can't possibly fully live my purpose and do my work. If I'm mean to me, how could I be a great daughter, friend or coach? The same is true for you – I guarantee it. Whether you have a husband or not – even if you have a gorgeous latin lover, if you berate yourself constantly then you are blocking yourself from having the life you want.

The answer of course is self-love, but who the heck knows how to love themselves? I know I didn't for a long, long time. Finally, I get it. And I want you to get it too. Because when you feel compassion, forgiveness and appreciation for who you are, trust me, it's better than that heart-shaped chocolate! So, in this week's PurposeFULL message I discuss how to shift this harmful behavior so that you CAN have the love you desire, a career you'll love and alive that will light you up!

Again, here are the tips:
1. Define “love” to you.
2. Use that definition to create self-love behaviors
3. Get help. If you need support in getting unstuck, moving forward in life and having what you want, then seek a coach, friend or other support. Asking for help is an incredibly beautiful way to show yourself love.
