Everyone is short on time. You ask someone you haven’t seen in a while how they are and the odds are that they’ll tell you that they’re so busy. But running around feeling rushed and pressed for time all the time is no way to live our happiest life, so what can we do about it?
My special guest today is the perfect person to speak to this. Valorie Burton is a bestselling author and founder of the Coaching and Positive Psychology Institute (CaPP), has served clients in over 40 states and ten countries and written twelve books on personal development, is a frequent guest expert for the TODAY Show, CNN, Dr. Oz, Oprah Magazine, NPR, Essence and many others, has spoken to hundreds of organizations, and has a master’s degree in applied positive psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree in journalism from Florida A&M University, and a BA from Florida State University.
Val says that because there is more information coming at us than at any time in history, we’re being flooding and we’re being faced with false urgencies, where we feel that because something is in front of us it must be very urgent. We feel heightened expectations on us because in our society today, we can do so much more in less time, and we feel that pressure. Val struggled with these issues herself and now teaches others how to control their time instead of letting time control them.
Val explores the relationship between time and money and how that’s changed over the years, discusses experiments she’s been conducting with her own use of time, both professionally and personally, and speaks to the importance of living your life in a way that holds meaning and is not just about addressing all the false urgencies.
