The Honorable Marjorie Margolies
Marjorie Margolies is known for many things, from Clinton in-law to Emmy-winning journalist to her single term in the 103rd Congress from 1993 to 1995, when she was the pivotal swing vote for a Clinton budget that she was publicly against, even appearing on television to state her opposition.
After a brief phone call from President Clinton, she changed her stance and voted yea. Many believe this decision cost Margolies her seat in her re-election.
Regardless, she is a woman with many “firsts” under her belt and has been casting the mold for women’s ambition since her days at NBC, but what Margolies should perhaps be best known for is her passion for the advocacy of women’s rights.
During her term as a democratic representative of Pennsylvania’s 13th District—the first democrat elected from PA’s 13th District since 1916—Margolies spoke out about a number of women’s issues, including an increase in federal funding for women’s health care. She collaborated with a female colleague of the House in 1993 to push for more breast and cervical cancer research and funding.
Margolies was also against the Hyde Amendment, which was passed in 1976 and prohibits any federal funding of abortions, with the exception of rape and incest. Believing that a woman has the right to an abortion during the first-trimester of pregnancy, she co-sponsored the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) and the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act.
After her term in Congress, Margolies went on to chair the National Women’s Business Council, the “government’s only independent voice for women entrepreneurs,” according to the website. She also served as both the Director and Deputy Chair of the U.S. delegation to the U.N. Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995, alongside honorary chair and then-first-lady Hillary Clinton, where all 189 governments in attendance signed a Platform for Action, vowing to advocate for women’s rights around the world.
In 1998 Margolies created Women's Campaign International to provide a seat at the table for women around the world.

I empower women through their panties! All my life I dreamed of starting my own business. Finally, at age 57, I did it! I had no idea it would involve offering panties, but here I am. And, loving every minute of it! I grew up in a middle-class family in Ohio. My mother was born and raised in Mexico and we traveled to Mexico very frequently, so I believe this is where I developed my wanderlust and my sense of adventure and curiosity. And, I’ve been fortunate to live in Germany twice; once as a member of the US Army and the other as an expatriate. I am a creative and crafty person. I enjoy cooking, wine, sabering champagne, traveling to Europe, hula hooping, and sharing fun experiences with others. I really want to meet the The Fab Five! Because it would be a blast! I actually want to reach out to them at some point, make them underwear, and ask them if they will make me over as a super shero In my life BPP (before Purpose Girl) I held careers as an Executive Assistant, Meeting and Event Planning, and Corporate Paralegal. Now, in LaPP, I am an entrepreneur and I plan to travel more, live part-time in Europe, hold retreats several times a year in the US and Europe, and launch a coaching business by the end of the year. Finally, I plan to give concerts (either solo electric guitar or in a girl band of 60+ Sisters!).
