SPARK: Share, Heal, Inspire

Yesterday, I (re)learned a powerful lesson. Your SPARK this week is: When you share your heart's story, you inspire others to courage. It's the most purposeful thing we can do.

And so, here goes… On yesterday's Purpose Power Hour, I shared that last weekend, I had a miscarriage. I hadn't even gotten to tell you, or my sister, or friends that I was pregnant, and then in a matter of moments, my baby was gone. Just gone. My heart ripped open and is still twisted and raw.

But during the Purpose Power Hour, I healed. I shared my whole story – the pain, my shame, my nasty self-talk – and how I have begun to heal. I talked about what I now know about miscarriage and women's bodies, and how purpose is healing me. I shared the ways Josh and I found hope at the hospital, and how we are finding joy now. Plus, I shared the critical steps for how you, too, can find light in the darkness.

Participants began texting me, “Thank you. I feel better now.” Another said, “Thank you for sharing this. People don't discuss this enough to know we are not alone.” In fact, since talking about my miscarriage, women who have had miscarriages, abortions, IVF treatments, menopause, and body and sexual shame have thanked me, saying, “me too.”

Wow – I am so blessed. I now see that this pain is part of my great purpose.

After the Power Hour, one woman wrote, “What you did today is the greatest example (of courage) I may ever witness. The authenticity and raw emotion touched me in a way I cannot put into words. Thank you, you are making a difference in my life. When I need to draw strength during difficult times, I will draw from this experience and the example you set today.”

Had I not had the miscarriage, I would not have had this impact. And this impact gives me great joy. How blessed I am to inspire others!

You, too, can find light in the darkness. You, too, can turn your pain into purpose. You, too, can inspire others by bravely sharing your story.

Please remember that you are powerful. You have a story to share. It is your life experiences, and usually your most horrific pain, that give you great wisdom. That wisdom is your purpose. It is your gift to inspire others. Together, we can change the world for good.
